Back Seat...Car Seat Driver

“You’re getting pretty good at red and green lights, Grandma,” my three year old granddaughter remarked in the car yesterday morning. “You think so?” I asked after laughing. “Yep, you are,” she replied. She finally has the stop and go thing down. She is the most impatient child at a red light. For quite some time now she has been telling me to ‘go’ because she gets tired of sitting at red lights (some of the red lights around here are very long). My standard reply is, of course, “I have to wait for the light to turn green.” I suppose she thinks now that she understands the concept, that I’m better at it, too. In my opinion, she’s way too young to be a back seat driver! It’s bad enough that Hubby sometimes thinks he’s a co-pilot. Of course, I will admit that I have the same little character defect.

Here are a few more of the things she’s said lately that I’ve been collecting to share.
“My flower grew smaller.” Translation: “My weed wilted.”
“Are you going to put it in the washing machine to dry it?”
“Ah,man!” Translation: “Amen.” At some point I realized she was using the two interchangeably.

In answer to eldest daughter’s question, “What’s in Angola?” here is a picture Hubby took from the staff house in Luanda. His words, “It’s not Brussels!” He will be glad to know that they finally chopped down the huge, dead tree behind our fence that was hit by lightening last year. Too bad we were gone when they did it! I think it would have been interesting to watch and I know the grandson would have been delighted to observe how it’s done. There is now a great path through the woods to the greenbelt. Unfortunately, they didn't cut down the leaning willow tree. Someday it's going to crash down the fences, the arbor and land in the neighbor's pool.

Young granddaughter started doing the “Go Papaw” at the lights with me also. I always wondered where she got that from. You’ve got to admit she’s a cutie though. Never know what she’ll come up with next.

Tell them all I said Hi and that I will be home soon. Can’t wait to see you all!!

Glad to hear they finally removed that tree. I’m not sure it could have stood many more storms before something gave and it came crashing down. I can live with the other tree for now. But the big ole’ dead pine needed to go.

Don’t let the picture taken from the staff house fool you. Luanda is not half as nice as that picture looks. Drivers pick us up for the trip to the office around 6:15am to beat the traffic. It takes around 20 – 25 minutes for this commute. We leave the office around 5 pm and, because of the rush hour traffic, this trip takes anywhere from 1 – 3 hours. When approaching an intersection it’s everyone for them selves. From what I can figure, the one who sticks the front end of their car out the furtherist gets the right away, right after the motorcycle that happens to fly by, zinging in and out of traffic.

I would like to get some more pictures. Especially of the traffic and the ladies walking around in colorful outfits with buckets of stuff on their heads but was advised not to for various reasons. There’s not much else to take a picture of.

On a cheerier note, I head home tomorrow. It’s been a whirl wind trip but I’m ready to get home.

I understand that G has redone the living room and assures me I’ll like it because she does. She also told me that she mowed the lawn. On top of that J e-mailed asking if she could take me to dinner for Fathers Day. Who wouldn’t want to come home to all that??

And G, just as a warning, I’m taking Friday off and planning on a long, lazy weekend!!

See you all soon!

I wasn't entirely convinced from the photo that Luanda looked all that nice, now I'm really convinced that I don't want to go there.

I'm glad to know that you'll like the living room based soley on the fact that mom likes it. That's funny! She described it to me and you probably will like it if it's what I imagine. It sounds nice! I just like the fact that it's going to be different next time I see it. I get bored with things always being the same, especially in my own house.
